ABPI response to United Nations General Assembly political declaration on antimicrobial resistance

World leaders came together for the High-level Meeting on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting served as a critical time for nations to discuss and commit to accelerating progress in the global fight against AMR.

Commenting on the UN AMR Declaration, Colette Goldrick, ABPI Executive Director Corporate Affairs & Strategy, said:

“This UN Declaration means there is renewed international recognition of the threat that antimicrobial resistance poses to global health and the need for different countries to collaborate on solutions, including their Action Plans.

“The UK has already demonstrated international leadership on this issue by launching a world-first new model for evaluating and paying for antibiotics and a new National Action Plan on AMR.

“We will continue to partner with the government to share the positive lessons from the UK with other nations and to find meaningful and long-term solutions to this ongoing silent global epidemic.”
