Global health expenditure as a share of GDP

According to the OECD, the aim to control growth of total expenditure on health as a share of gross domestic product (GDP) has continued since 2008 across many countries. In 2016, the average total expenditure on health as a share of GDP for all OECD countries was 9%. The UK was just above the OECD average but ranked seventh by this measure for the peer group (a sample of other countries within and outside the EU comparable to the UK) below.
